About me

I am a qualified Barrister and Solicitor who has moved into sole practice after working for more than a decade at one of New Zealand's largest firms.  I have a range of experience, but my particular expertise sits at the intersection of health, employment, privacy and human rights law.

I have significant experience working in sensitive and traumatic situations, including advising on adverse events in the health sector and working within the coronial, ACC and PPPR jurisdictions.  I am also an experienced employment lawyer, including acting as an investigator, particularly in areas of high sensitivity, such as those involving sexual harm or discrimination.

Through Dawn Legal I hope to combine the practice of law alongside my wider academic, teaching and reform interests.  I am the convenor of the New Zealand Law Society’s Health and Disability Law Committee and I have a Masters of Global Health Law from Georgetown University (USA).  I have written on a range of academic topics, and I am currently working on a significant research project exploring Trauma informed legal practice for Aotearoa New Zealand.    I have training in restorative practice, and where it is right, I aim to apply a restorative lens in the work that I do.
